Hunting in Groton
No hunting is allowed at Groton, and the Ames Meadow, Flavell Crossing, Fox Run,Groton Hills, and Longley II conservation areas.
Please be advised that there is no hunting on Sundays in Massachusetts
1. All people are welcome to enjoy themselves without change in these conservation areas of the Town of Groton from 1/2 hour after sunrise until 1/2 after sunset
2.If not posted, conservation areas owned by the Town of Groton are managed by the Groton Conservation Commission may be hunted or fished in season with a license and in accord with applicable law.
● Applicable law* includes no discharge of firearms within 150 feet of a hard surfaced
roadway or 500 feet of an occupied building. Please note hunting season for bird
(pheasant, quail and ruffed grouse) is from October 17- November 28, 2009.
● Turkey may be hunted from April 27 to May 23, 2009 and October 26 to October 28,
2009.
● Coyote may be hunted January 1 March7, 2009 and October 17 to March 8,2009.
● Bear may be hunted between September 8 and September 26, 2009 and November 2
and November21, 2009.
● The archery season for deer extends from October 12 to November 21, 2009. Shotgun
season is November 30 to December12, 2009, and muzzle loading season is December
14 to December 31, 2009.
● wearing some item of clothing in “hunter orange” is strongly recommended during the
above time periods.
3. Hunting is also allowed within most of New England Forestry Foundation parcels (bow hunting in Sabine Woods and Keyes Woods), Groton Town Forest, the Peter Bertozzi Wildlife Conservation Area along the Squannacook River, the Squannacook River Wildlife Management Area, adjoining the Groton Town Forest, J. Harry Rich State Forest , and Gamlin Crystal Spring area on Old Dunstable Road owned by the Groton Conservation Trust is not open to hunting, but you are advised to contact them directly about rules and regulations -978 448 4392.
